Five Minute Friday - Ordinary
Today I am joining Lisa Jo-Baker and many others for Five Minute Friday. I will be writing for five minutes flat - no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking Today's word is:
Ordinary
These days I am finding extraordinary in the ordinary.
I arrived in Pennsylvania other day to attend the funeral of my grandmother.
As I drive around this town which is nothing like my own - I see the ordinary everywhere.
The barns so close to the street you could touch them as you drive by.
Farmhouses with quaint porches
Cornfields for miles.
These are things images of my child hood, the memories of visiting often.
The feelings as I drive to the church to say good bye change them from ordinary to extraordinary.
What they hold what I can not bring back.
We go through the things that once belong to my grandmother and her mother before, the dishes, forks and knives... all simple things, but ordinary no more.
i am so sorry for your loss ... may there be great comfort in your faith, and in the beauties of the ordinary.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it interesting how a single moment... can forever change the way our eyes and heart see things? I'm sorry for your loss as well... and grateful that it is not being wasted, but instead has enhanced your senses to experience the "normal" with a greater sense of value and worth. *hugs*
ReplyDeletein the midst of an incredibly sad event you have foudn beauty. I literally stopped breathing at the line "what they hold what I can not bring back" as it resonated through my soul. It can be hard to find words at times like these and you have done so effortlessly. Praying God comforts you during this time.
ReplyDeleteSorry for your loss. How Love comes in and makes the ordinary extraordinary can take our breath away if we let it! So glad you let it... let Him!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry, Kimberly. Grief has a way of shifting everything outside the realm of ordinary. Thinking of you...
